Hej!

Hi!

As mention before I had a fantastic trip. I meet many very nice peoble, and had my fun with the wildlife. I had very little problems with the bike, only one puncture, and some ajustment to the headset on the bike. I have not yet recalculatet my distance traveled, but acording to my dayly notes its around 14.493 km in 69 days. My worst eksperince was as ekspectet the magpies in the last 2.000 km. I was at a point atactet 7 times in just 25 km, some bumping very hard in to my helmet (AHRRR....I get so scared)

A more detaled version will apear on my website in a couble of monts.

A very special thanks to all the peoble who has help me before, under and after the trip!

My wife (webmaster and mental suporter and lifeline on the way)

Australian Red Cross Blood service, and Donercenters along the way. ( provided goodwill on the road and was wery helpfull! Thanks for the wonderfull welcome at the finishline!!

Christian, Did all the picture stuff here (I now have to give this guy some redwine...aaaggh)

Lars and lisa, Acomondation provider before and after the trip, and a very good help for me. This guy Lars even took the train down to Wollongong to follow me in the last 85 km, making sure I didnt miss the last few hills left in Australia too, NICE!

Eugen Shilter, current recordholder on the challenge Unsuportet bikeride around Australia. Providet knoledge and tips, on the way! Followed me the last 40 km in to town, and provided the finish banner, THANKS!

My job, Andelsboligen skejbyvaenge, who let me take 3 months off, and still having the job on my return!!

And the very many peoble who sent pictures and notes along the way, and wrote in my guestbook, I will return to you when I get back to Denmark.

Erik

Hi!

Wollongong now, and yes, I could have done Sydney today too, but only with strugling, and why should I?

Im still miles away from Eugen Shilters amazing 55 days and 11 days ahead of the Danish record, so the last day Im slowing down to disabled speed and will arive at Sydney Operahus at 1 pm tommorow.

If anyone will follow me in to town, I will take the waterfall road. Then you can decide for yourself how far up the road you want to go. There will be some reception at the Donar center with eating, and you are welcome to join there too!

Erik

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hej!

Mere imorgen!

Hi!

Ellison now, had a strong tailwind to here, but am feeling tired, so I didnt continue to Port Lincoln as I would have done if I feelt strong.

South Australia has more smooth roads than Western Australia, and im surpriced how little trafic there is down here on the west coast of Eyre penninsula.

Hej!

News from Bonita about Erik.

Hello everyone

We have heard from Erik again. He was at Norseman in Western Australia on Friday, ready to cross the Nullarbor Plain - which is desert. Flat red earth. Quite beautiful because of the colours, but also vast.

I did not talk with him as I did not hear the phone, but he said in the message he was well. He is expecting to be in Adelaide by the end of this week.

Hi!

Erik arrived Nullarbor roadhouse. He has now biked 11.113 km.
He is in good health and good spirit.
The wind has changed severel times during the day - funny - well i did not matter - there was not so much of it and most of it was a kind of tailwind.

Hej!

Hi!

I arrived from Denmark to Albany around 6 am, looked at the trees bending ind the strong wind, the dark clouds, and thought that if there ever should be a good reason to take a rest day, it would be here. I would be facing a half headwind as the road up to Jerramunup was bending in to the wind. However, I pushed on, feeling strong, and it turned out to be not so bad as I had shelter from the wind by the woods, the last half being the worst though.

Next morning still strong wind, looking good for the mega leg to gibson 292 km away as the road from Jerramunup is going east. After 50 to 60 km however I dicided to stop at Ravensthorpe because the many ups and downs and the woods spoled the use of the tail wind, so started to slow down and enjoy the lanscabe. Arrived at 9.50 am.

Was on the road again at 10.18, panik was in my face, as it turned out to be no acommondation in town, all full because of a mine project nearby. I suddenly had to ad 176 km to the days figure.

I made it to Gibson, mainly because of the good tailwind and the landscabe had flattend out, so it was fast going.
Am now at norseman, and will enter the nullarbor tomorrow. Hope the wind will not repeat last times strong headwind.

Regards
Erik

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Charmaine..... from Australian Blood Center in Perth..!!
Sending this mail..

Hello,

My name is Charmaine and I work in the Marketing Department for the Australian Red Cross Blood Service in Perth. Erik arrived at our Perth Donor Centre on Friday 4th of August, around lunchtime. He didn\'t spend much time in the city / middle of Perth, before hopping on his bike again and heading south, where he was planning to stop in Rockingham overnight. Please find some photographs attached, which were taken on Friday.

I wish Erik all the best with his world-record attempt. Thank you for supporting the work of the Australian Red Cross Blood, and helping our organisation raise awareness of the importance of voluntary blood donors.

Hi!

Im back in Denmark now!

Yes Eugen, its going very well these days. I guess its not having to tow 10 liters of water and the camping gear that make the different. When I was in Perth i asked for an easy way out of town, and was told there was a bike path along the entire freeway, and there was, so easy going there. The Bunbury / Denmark leg has been very hilly, but that was ekspektet. Dont know about tommorow, Im keen on taking a rest day in Albany, but we will see!

Hi!

Today Erik arrived Cataby, 40 km. south of Badgingarra. He had expected a lot of villages on his way, but what he thought would be villages seems to be roadhouses. It is possible though to buy plenty of food. He feels well and is in good spirit.
Yesterday he made an interview with a Danish/Australien radiostation and a newspaper.
The plan for tomorrow is o arrive and pass Perth (162 km. away from Catady).

The family.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hej!

Got this mail from him.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi Christian,

My name is Werner and I live in Perth, Western Australia. About 3 weeks ago, I came across Eric\'s Web side and since then, I follow his process with great interest everyday.

I was born in Switzerland many years ago ( I\'m the same age as Eric ) . Been living now for 9 1/2 years here in Perth and before that in New Zealand for 18 years. As I\'m also a keen Cyclist, I wonder, when Eric arrives here in Perth, as I would love to meet him and maybe cycle with Eric into Perth or help him on the way out of Perth again. Do you know, which way he is cycling into Perth, as there are a couple of routes he could take.

I\'m looking forward to hear from you

Kind regards

Hi!

Today Erik arrived to the Minilya Roadhouse 140 km. north of Carnarvon. He will spend the rest of the day eating. It has not been possible to buy deasent food the last 3 days - only hotdogs and cakes. Not even milk was possible to buy. Bad luck - they were out of cola.
He also needs a good night sleep. He did not sleep much last night becouse of rain (his mosquitonet is only protecting against mosquitos - not rain)
Tomorrow he will make a short day - only the 140 km. to Carnavon, where he will do some shopping and most importand - buy some propper food.
After Carnavon he dicided to leave his tent and mospuitonet. It was a good investment in the hot part of Australia, but he i now biking south - lower temperatures and more rain.

The family.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hej!

Familien.

On Tuesday, 4th July, Erik Straarup a blood donor from Denmark cycled through Townsville on his challenge to cycle around Australia in an attempt to break the Danish record of 80 days. Hi!

Erik phoned from Whim Creek, where just arrived about noon west Australian time.
He is doing weel, and planed to bike a bit more today. At Whim Creek he biked 7.259 km. - remaining 51 km. and he biked half way of his planed trip.
The temperatures are on the way down. Today \"only\" 30 degrees Celcius.
There is not many trees, so he planed to camp on a restplace with table and benches under roof. I think he will use a table or a bench as a bed.

Hej!

Hi!

Erik arrived this morning (at noon West Australien time) Sandfire Roadhouse. A place with a lot of peacocks and what they are leaving behind them all over the place. Cockroaches and flees might be there as well, but a very nice person to run the place.
Erik biked 6.862 km so far.
Temperatures at noon is 33 degrees Celcius. Temperatures at night about 10 degrees Celcius. Erik do not feel good in those high temperatures, so he starts biking about 1 o\'clock at night.
On his way to Sandfire Roadhouse he met another snake on the road. He thougt it might be dead, but it raised its head just when he passed it. No danger - it was big, but slow and dizzy.
The family.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hej!

Familien.

Hi!

E.S. phoned home.
This morning he called from Gold Coast 88 km. south of Brisbane.
He changed his planes a bit. He send his tent at sleepingbag and some other things back to Lars in Sidney. Some of the roads are very bumpy and Erik was afraid that the back part og his bike should be damaged - becourse of the waight.
He is in god health and the wether is very good for a danish biker. 18-20 degrees Celcius in the daytime - and a bit cold - 2 degrees Celcius in the night.
Yesterday he made a stop to enjoy the view - and some people fra Australien MTV stoppet - made a film and an interview - to send on Australien TV July 25. 2006.

Hej!

Hello there!

We are very sad in Australia today as we believe we unfairly lost to Italy in the World Cup.

However, we have heard from Erik and he is well.

He was last seen by members of the public around Ballina in northern NSW and was expecting to spend the night at the NSW/Queensland border (Gold Coast). I understand from Lars here in Sydney that Erik has sent some of his equipment back to Lars as it was too heavy on the bumpy roads.

Hi!

This trip is mostly about completing what I didnt manage to do in 2002!

That said, I do not have unlimited time on my hands, and have to be back in Sydney 81 days later to catch my plane.

I hope to do about 200 km average pr day, so I should be back in Sydney 74 days after departure.

Needles to say it can go eather below or above that figure, but I realy dont care that much about it, at the end I just want to complete the trip and catch my plane!

If I go below 80 days I have broken the Danish record from 1985,   I DO have that in mind too

Erik

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hej!

Erik
